Brotherly Love

Owen and Clay absolutely LOVE their new baby brother! They have come to visit Will every day and already we see a difference in Clay who seems to be naturally stepping into his new "big brother" shoes. They enjoy all things "bu bee" (Clay's sweet pronunciation of baby) and can't wait for Will to come home so they can show him his room, but for now they settle for showing him the people and things around the hospital room.


Zach's mom gave our 3 boys "brother" (big, middle & baby) shirts, so we decided to try our hand at photographing all 3 boys together. These are their first pictures, just the 3 of them and as you can see, it was an entertaining venture. But hey, what do you expect from
3 boys under the age of 3!

Owen and Clay have also enjoyed coming to the hospital for another reason. Each time they have arrived they have received a surprise or gift from our family and friends. People have been so thoughtful to think of them during this time and they truly appreciate the generosity.

Home Sweet Home

We brought our newest Knight home today. Meg's doctor tried to talk her into staying at "Hotel Hendrick" (a.k.a. Hendrick Medical Center) until tomorrow (due to some ill controlled pain issues), but she really was ready to come home.

The thought of having our family all together under one roof and getting to sleep in our precious Select Comfort bed were some of the enticing factors. Though she must admit, it was quite wonderful to have someone waiting on her hand and foot (the Hendrick nursing staff did an excellent job!), even if she did have major surgery to make it happen.

But in the end, there comes a point when you begin to crave the privacy and comfort of your own home. We had reached that point. So, we checked out of "Hotel Hendrick" and arrived home this evening with all three of our boys in tow. Thankfully both of our moms were here to assist us in this parade.

And Meg's mom (who has been keeping the boys all week during our hospital stay) is staying another week or until Meg is back on her feet.

After dutifully greeting his adoring fans Will was wisked away to the recovery room, where his mommy was anxiously awaiting his arrival (She was also dry heaving and could barely move her arms, but that's another story for another blog entry).

Owen's Birthday Express!

Happy 3rd Birthday Owen!


Owen's third birthday party had a train theme. We had the party today (11.24.2007) at our church building in the multi-purpose room. We had planned to have a small train ride in the parking lot, but we had to cancel that on account of the unseasonable weather Abilene has been experiencing this week (Beautiful SNOW!). So, our family and a few close friends enjoyed some birthday fun indoors. There was cake, ice cream and snacks to munch on.


There were toy trains and balloons to play with.


We had train coloring pages and the party's anticipated crowning glory...a train pinata!

I was so convinced that Owen would love his first pinata experience (whacking something with a baseball bat seemed right up his ally!), that I neglected to "talk" to him about it before hand (for those of you who know my oldest, you know that he is a reserved creature of habit, who needs things discussed before being able to jump in.). Needless to say, he didn't even whack it once! He reservedly watched as the other children pummelled the pinata with all their might. When asked if he would like to take a turn, he would reply (wide eyed) "no thanks". He was, however, very quick to take part in the gathering of the candy that ensued when the pinata was at last broken open. Then, of course, on our way home from the party he said "I really would like to hit that train". Hmmm...too late sweetie. It was a very fun third birthday bash! Thank you to everyone who came to help us celebrate a special Owen day before the craziness of "Sweet Bun" gets underway!

Halloween flashback

Owen received a pair of glow-in-the-dark teeth during our trunk-or-treat at church this year. He calls them "Mater Teeth" (for those of you who have seen the movie CARS this will make sense). Needless to say, he really enjoys wearing them. Other accessories come and go, but the "Mater Teeth" are still a favorite! Never a dull moment in the Knight house...These boys keep their mommy well entertained!

Give Thanks...

With a grateful heart!

Since I couldn't leave town this year for the Thanksgiving holiday, my sweet family came to Abilene. We all stayed at the MCM Elegante Suites. It was a wonderful and very different experience for my family. We have always celebrated in one of our homes and shared a home-cooked meal together. This year we relaxed in our large hotel suites. We enjoyed continental breakfast every morning.

We ate our first Thanksgiving dinner "out" (MCM Elegante serves an all you can eat Thanksgiving meal. It was very yummy and a bit more swanky than our usual family dinner).

We swam in the indoor heated pool.
The oldest cousins had a sleepover in "Pa-G" & "GG's" room, complete with sugar cookie decorating, bowling and croquet.












We enjoyed playing together in the beautiful snow that fell on Thanksgiving day (It started to snow during our Thanksgiving dinner and we could see the large flakes through the hotel lobby windows. When Owen saw the snow he exclaimed with an excited stutter "I wanna make a...make a...have a fight!" We quickly deduced that he was instantly energized about the possibility of a snowball fight. He doesn't really remember the last time he was in snow, so there was an exciting reality that what he has seen in movies could actually be done.). All in all a wonderful time was had.
Such a special treat for our entire family!

Celebrate!

Meg's family is in town for Thanksgiving. All of the members have converged on Abilene because of Meg's inability to travel, due to the looming due date. An added bonus to having everyone in town for tomorrows joyful Thanksgiving celebration is the fact that they were just in time to help celebrate Meg's 27th birthday! We all met at TaMolly's (home to the yummiest chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce you will ever put in your mouth) for a scrumptious celebration dinner...

The 11.21 club

As a mommy I don't find myself using the phrase "goin' clubbin'" very often (truth be told, I didn't really use those words before my sweet children came into my life), so I will take this rare opportunity to exercise the limits of these words. My very good friend Kelly MacDonald and I share many things in common, including the greatest birth date of the year: 11.21! Today as the founding members of the 11.21 club, we treated ourselves to a birthday lunch (with kids in tow, of course) at Olive Garden. I must sing the praises of all 6 1/2 of our children, they were all on their best behavior throughout their mommy's birthday lunch treat. In place of birthday cake, Kelly and I agreed that a Starbucks treat (just for the birthday girls, and acquired via the Starbucks drive-through window) was needed to officially "top off" our fun celebration. This Week...

Toddler Toothbrushes & Toothpaste

Both of our boys really like to brush their teeth. This is one less item to pack when heading to "Bud" & "Honey's" for a sleepover. (note: My mother-in-law might dislike the fact that I posted this picture, but I think that she has a priceless way of cultivating joy and wonder in my children, and this picture helps to showcase that wonderful trait!)

Meg's 27th...

Meg turns 27 years old this week (on the 21st to be exact). Larry and MaryKay (Zach's parents) treated us to a wonderful birthday meal at The Homeplace restaurant today after church services (11.18.2007), followed by presents and Chocolate Delight at their house. What a fun treat! Owen and Clay helped Meg open her gifts. Clay seemed to anticipate this being a dangerous job
(Note: the hard hat).


The boys placed the candles on mommy's "cake", all 24 (That's all we had. It's sad when you need more candles than they sell in a box!). The glow was however, very impressive, even if there were only 24 candles. It took three people to light the candles, one of which thought that getting them all lit was going to be quite a tough job (Note: the hard hat appears again). It was a very sweet and extremely enjoyable birthday celebration (without injury, thanks to the hard hat, of course!).
A great way to kick off an event full week!

"Builder Men"

I am on a mission to get more organized before baby #3 makes his appearance. I have had several projects for Zach to work on when he gets home in the evenings. Here are my 3 "builder mens" (Owen refers to himself and Clay as "builder mens") putting together the new toy shelf for Owen & Clay's big boy room. Zach is so patient with the boys as he shows them how to be good "builder mens". And the boys enjoy ANYTHING they get to do with daddy!

He's got three-wheel-skill...

Owen has recently mastered the pedaling motion required to ride a bike proficiently. He was very excited to also learn that his legs were finally long enough to reach the pedals on the big trike at Bud and Honey's house where he put his newly mastered skill to the test all around the backyard. Owen has begun telling us that he is going to ask Santa for a "big boy bike" this year. You never know...he just might get one!
