We awoke to a beautiful morning! Our friends the MacDonald's (Jim, Kelly, Troy 7, Trent 6, Paige 4 and Reese 2) had gotten settled into their campsite next to ours the night before.
After eating breakfast together we started our adventures for the day. First we drove up over Cumbres pass, stopping at the top to watch the train go by and allow it to smash some coins on it's track for the kids. After piling back into our cars we turned off of the main road and headed toward the waterfall trail head we had scouted the day before.
Reese and Clay got to "hike" in comfort, strapped to their daddies backs. Everyone else trekked up the 1.3 mile trail to see Rough Creek Waterfall which was awaiting us at the end. (Hiking up the trail-@L. The Knight family photo op-Below.)
We settled in at the waterfall for a little rest and to enjoy some lunch. (Reese & Owen enjoying their lunch-@L.)
Following lunch and a quick family photo shoot, we started the hike back down to our cars. (The MacDonald family photo op- @R.)
Owen did amazingly well on the entire hike.
Mommy and Daddy were both very proud of his positive attitude. He never complained, though it visibly pushed him to his limit. At one point he said "dis hikin' be berry hard work!". Though exhausted, he trooped along, enjoying every moment we experienced together in God's beautifully created outdoors. (Zach, Clay & Owen hiking the trail-@L. Owen the "Hiker Man"-@R. After arriving safely back at our cars the daddies and kids ran down the hill to throw some rocks off of the bridge into the river.
We then loaded back into our cars and drove to:
Spectacle Lake
where some fishing was enjoyed by the kids.
(Nothing was caught, but the time spent together was well worth it!)
Reese was kind enough to share an Grapple (a grape infused apple) with Owen while he took part in some serious fishing.
Clay immensely enjoyed his very first fishing excursion, following an episode in which he tried to walk out onto the water (someone's been paying attention in Bible class!) and ended up with him being soaked, mud covered and bleeding from his noggin (well, maybe he didn't pay attention to all of the details during Bible class). It didn't phase him for long...there was fishing and exploring to take part in! (Zach & Clay-@L. Zach, Owen & Clay-Below.)

I am so glad that our kids all love to be outside. In fact, since being home my guys have had a bit of a hard time staying in to get some schoolwork done! They are already looking forward to our next joint adventure - whenever that might be. We might give you time to recover from childbirth first. :)
Love the family pictures...yall photgraph well! And I love the picture of Zach and Clay! Super cute! Anyway, glad yall have the MacDonald's to do stuff like this with - that is so neat! And I am glad you have me, when you want to go to San Marcos! Now that's my type of vacation! :) Aaron, I am sure, would love to trade me in at times for a more "adventureous wife" but hey, we all know I could hardly make it down the "hill" in Boerne, so I don't think yall want to go on any outdoor adventures with Miss Kim. TRUST ME! :)
